TOP 10 THINGS WE'LL MISS ABOUT LIFE AT 2140 BURR STREET
6. We will miss the big showers, especially the steam shower after a long
day of hiking. The large master closet means that there is no need to switch
out seasonal clothes. The convenience of the second floor laundry room puts it
at the center of where the dirty clothes and linen end up. We make full use of the
long counter for folding the clean laundry. There is no shortage of storage space
throughout the house.
7. We will miss driving up Burr Street to our home. The seasonal change of scenery
is beautiful. New spring green and dogwoods line the road in the spring transitioning
into a summer canopy of green. Fall foliage along Burr is beautiful and when snow
covers the trees and roads, it's a winter wonderland. There are many beautiful routes
to take from our home for bike rides, hikes or easy walks. The charm of New England is
evident in this area. We will miss the stone fences.
8. We will miss our home library with its fireplace. As avid readers, this has been a
frequently used haven. There is nothing better on a cold winter night than curling up in
front of the fireplace to read with our chocolate Lab curled up at our feet. We labeled
this space as our cabinet of curiosities--unique souvenirs from our travels, family
heirlooms and favorite books line the shelves and add to the warmth and richness of
this room. The Crestron sound system, which runs throughout the house, allows us to
select music that fits our mood.
We will miss our beautiful, functional kitchen. All of our family loves to cook
and this kitchen is our dream. There is so much prep area and many hands can
be helping without getting in each other's way. We will miss the Thanksgiving and
holiday dinners that were prepared here. The pastry counter has spoiled us with it's
ergonomic and convenient height. The spice racks nestled on each side of the range,
the double ovens, and the warming oven are a cook's delight. The deep farmhouse
copper sink overlooking the pool is a unique, attractive feature of this kitchen.
9. The entry hall is what drew us to this house. Our "witches tower" (someone in this
house was born the day before Halloween) is a favorite seasonal decorating spot. We
love changing the floral arrangements on the entry table to reflect the season. Our
ten foot Christmas tree is spectacular in this space along with the boxwood garland
that bedecks the hand railing. Prom and wedding pictures on the circular staircase
bring tears to the eyes. During a wedding held at this house, the front entry served
as the dramatic point for our niece (the bride) to appear from and then walk with her
father to the guests and groom waiting under the majestic tree in the front yard.
10. The gardens are so beautiful from early May through fall. We will miss the flowering
spring trees that line the driveway and street. The fragrance from the four Viburnum
bushes in our "secret garden" are unforgettable. The lilacs, roses, lily of the valley and
hydrangeas produce abundant bouquets for our kitchen table. Mint for cooking and drinks
grows in abundance right outside the kitchen door. The soil is so rich, everything grows with
little effort. It is protected by a beautiful, hand crafted, field stone fence. Our plant selection
insures color throughout the growing season.
