AN INTERVIEW WITH THE HOMEOWNERS OF 2140 BURR STREET
WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH 2140 BURR STREET?
We drove by this home and the builder had just begun framing the house. We were
attracted to the way he had placed the house on the property, saving the big trees and we
fell in love with the circular entry. The stone fence that the surrounded the property added
to the charm. This house seemed to call to us to be a part of its design.
PLEASE DESCRIBE THE RENOVATION PROCESS ...
We had such a positive building experience. After twelve years of living here, we still love
everything about the house and would not change a thing. We hired quality craftsmen, our
finish carpenter was extremely talented. All the wood work, cherry paneling, wainscoting and
tile designs throughout the house are custom and our own creation. The curved walls in various
rooms add to the creative inspiration we were seeking.
DID YOU EVER CONSIDER PUTTING IN A POOL?
We put in a pool and it has been such a restful retreat from springtime through the fall. We did have
property zoned for a pool house and tennis courts; however, decided to finish the basement. We
prepared the attic for future use by stubbing in the heat, plumbing and designing the back stair case to be
converted into an elevator. At the time, we thought we would be prepared to have our elderly parents live
with us. There's so much potential for added space, but we were content with what we built.
WHY ARE YOU MOVING?
We are retiring and preparing for our next adventure. Our family has grown and it's just the two of
us, so downsizing seems to make sense at this point of our lives. Nevertheless, we love this house
and it will be difficult to leave. We have entertained on many occasions at this home and we hope
subsequent owners will have the opportunity to build similar memories.
WILL YOU MISS THE NEIGHBORHOOD? Yes, we will miss our neighbors who have also become
friends that we will stay in touch with regardless of our location. Our neighbors respect each
other's privacy, but are always available if someone needs assistance. So many of us jog, bicycle
or walk our dogs in this neighborhood. We know many of the dogs by name! The beautiful
scenery in this neighborhood draws us outside to explore during all seasons giving, us the
opportunity to stop and chat with our neighbors.
TELL ME ABOUT THE GROUNDS ...
The grounds are spacious and provide privacy. There are several mature trees on this property
that add shade in the summer and spectacular color in the fall. The lawn is flat allowing it to be
used for a variety of purposes, including room for all types of games such as croquet, volleyball,
bocci, corn hole, pick-up soccer, touch football and softball games. We have also had party tents
assembled on several occasions. This house easily accommodates numerous guests. We have
had twenty people spend a week in our home for a family reunion and our privacy was protected
and we weren't affected by the crowd. We built this house for entertaining and we have hosted
holiday gatherings, sit-down dinners for 30, corporate events and a wedding for 100 guests. The
house is an easy home to maintain and we will truly miss it.
WHAT MAKES YOUR LOT SO SPECIAL?
This location feels like it is in the country, yet it is an easy drive to downtown Fairfield, the train station and
various shopping districts. We have easy access to the Merritt Parkway, but we do not hear the noise of the
traffic. We are within walking distance to the CT Audubon and as a result we draw song birds, hummingbirds
and woodpeckers to our feeders. The red tail hawks are always soaring above our property. We enjoy the various
wildlife that walk across our property: deer, red tailed fox and ducks who occasionally take a dip in our pool.
