TOP 10 THINGS WE'LL MISS ABOUT LIFE AT 842 REDDING ROAD
1. We will miss the short drive from town up Redding Rd, turning into our apple tree-lined
driveway, where our worries melt away. Entering our quite, private, field-framed home–
shielded by its nature, beauty and space – we discover serenity and breathe deeply.
2. We will miss looking out windows and seeing the property line in the distance defined
by the classic CT stone walls, the sunrises and sunsets as the rays filter through the native
and specimen trees and the endless wildlife that visits us.
3. We will miss the fields that were once home to our ponies, the now mature trees that
were freely explored and once held swings, the organic eggs from our chickens, the few
blueberries/raspberries not eaten by wildlife, fresh vegetables and herbs from the gardens and
sweet honey from our bees.
4. In the spring/summer/fall, we will miss hosting intergenerational gatherings, enjoying
space to let everyone explore the house, gardens, chicken coop and pool. This was often
supplemented by concurrent, softball and badminton games on the expansive lawn.
5. In the spring/summer/fall, we will miss our private, sundrenched pool with specimen
plantings and arbor for shade. Sunsets and dinner were magnificent from this vantage point.
Dips at night were magical.
6. After grilling or preparing food around the kitchen island, we will miss hosting family/
friends by sharing a meal on the flower-filled back patio, in the large dining room or spread
out in the various rooms on couches/chairs. We will miss roasting marshmallows over a
make-shift fire pit in the gravel front patio or watching spectacular thunderstorms from the
porch off the front patio, followed by a full-range rainbow to our southeast.
7. In the winter, we will miss snowshoeing around the perimeter, sledding down the hill,
closing the doors to the cozy library, lighting a fire and letting the southwestern sun
warm us on the couch under the picture window as we sip tea with cinnamon toast.
8. We will miss welcoming my parents and dog as they migrate from FL to VT. With a
bedroom and full bathroom downstairs, they felt private, cozy and grateful for such easy
accommodations. We will all miss the showers taken in bathrooms with the outstanding
water pressure due to our access waterline that flows downhill.
9. We will miss the perfect location – half-way between I95 and the Merritt parkway,
minutes from the train station and even closer, the Greenfield Hill Market (a perfect
stop to grab a scrumptious breakfast or dinner-to-go) and equal distance to downtown
Fairfield or the Blackrock turnpike for shopping.
10. We will miss living in the neighborhood- gardening with Greenfield Hill Church bells
ringing in the distance, our delightful neighbors who respect each other and our beautiful
properties.
