An Interview with...

THE PROUD HOMEOWNERS OF 842 REDDING ROAD

PLEASE SHARE YOUR HISTORY WITH THIS HOME
My family has owned the property since 1955. I grew up here along with my three
siblings. I have so many fond memories of my childhood on this property.
As we all got older, married and had children of our own, new traditions blossomed. When
we’d bring the children here for big family meals, afterwards we would all gather on the front
patio. The raised porch area would become the stage for the children who would put n “shows”

for parents and grandparents. As the years went by and the children got older, we added the fire
pit area as it was much “cooler” for our now middle/high school aged children.
In 2002, my husband and I moved into Honey Hill Farm to raise and educate our own family.
Now, three generations have experienced life on this beautifully private treasure in Greenfield Hill.
The multigenerational story is such big part of the story of this property. Now, my friend’s
children’s, children come to experience the organic gardens, the chickens and then take a swim in
the pool on lazy summer afternoons.

                        WHY ARE YOU MOVING?
We are right-sizing our life. Our children have moved on to college and quite honestly, a large
five/six-bedroom home and 4.5 acres for two people is just too much!

TELL ME ABOUT THE BEES AND CHICKENS -

HOW DID THEY BECOME A PART OF THE LIFE HERE?
When we moved back into the home the apple trees that line the driveway were not in great
shape. Our plan was to resurrect these ancient apple trees. For years I pruned them by hand.
It was so much work but yielded no apples at all. I had talked about getting bees for years but
my busy life kept me from fulfilling that task. One spring morning while I was working in the
yard I heard a buzzing sound. Initially I thought it was a wasp but upon closer inspection it

was a honeybee! I called my friend who keeps bees and announced, “ I think we finally have
honeybees!” My friend said that they were probably scouts looking for spot to locate a swarm in
a tree somewhere on the property. Shortly thereafter, we found the large cluster of honeybees in
one of our apple trees. The hive was in the shape of a large football. I didn’t need to get bees…
                         they chose our apple tree!
My honeybee friend came over and we moved the bees into the first hive and that was really
the beginning. Our original hive was located at the bottom of the hill by the apple tree. We
quickly learned that the location was too windy and moved the hive further up the hill. We stopped
mowing the fields twice a year so that we could keep the bees happy with wildflowers. It has been

about five years that we have had the bee hives and fresh, organic honey.
The chickens have been a on the property for 15 years. We got the chickens because as a
child I loved having chickens and wanted to share that experience with my daughters…it was also a
good way to get them out of the house! And, who doesn’t love fresh organic eggs? The hens are better
known as “the girls” and they live in a very chic coop that was designed especially for them!
