Q: Why are you moving?
A: My family has owned and loved this home for a long time, my father passed in January
and we not longer have the need for it. We hope that it will go to a family that will build as
many memories as we did.
Q: Tell me about the grounds...
A: Having the large field in the yard is great for hitting some baseballs, practicing your golf
shot (chips only!), or running around with your pets. You can also put some Adirondack
chairs out there and just relax with a nice beer, margarita, or iced tea. The deck is also a
great place to hang out, and regardless of the season, you can see right out to the woods
from that deck, and see the snow-covered trees, the yellow/orange fall leaves, or the green
of spring and summer. It really feels almost like a vacation home, but better because you
can live here year around. There are some small trails which my dad and I made out in the
forest, which you can mountain bike around on, and it’s just nice to have the forest behind
the house. The hill is also great for sledding in the winter!
Q: What makes your property so special?
A: I really appreciate that the house is quite secluded, with forest behind, the large field
and yard, and the (now very tall) pines which were planted when I was a kid give privacy
even though the house is not far off the road. As someone who had been living there for a
couple months through the year over the last 5 or so years, and otherwise living in a city
I always appreciated how I felt close to nature (there are also many hiking areas within a
short bike ride or drive) and the general quiet of the place. In the springtime you have the
peeper frogs in the forest, and I always loved to have my bedroom window open to let in
the cool spring air and all the nature sounds coming from the forest behind the house. If
you put out some bird feeders, you’ll never have a lack of beautiful birds to see, and you
can also often find a hawk or some deer out in the yard. On top of that, you never real-
ly feel far from civilization as you’ll see the neighbors walking by, and both Fairfield and
Westport are very short drives away. New York is a short commute as well if you really get
the need to go to the city! I also think that the school system is fantastic, and I really en-
joyed attending both Helen Keller and Joel Barlow Middle School. In terms of the rooms,
the family room is this great big and airy space (you can fit a huge Christmas tree in there!)
which we always spent a lot of time in. The finished basement also offers a lot of flexibil-
ity, we had it as a recreational area (workout space, pool table, entertainment) but many
things could be done with that space, and I remember as a teenager it was a favorite place
for me and my friends to hangout in the evenings. I also really love the large entry way to
the house with the open stairway upstairs. It felt unique to me, and it makes the house feel
big and airy and free, I personally always liked that feeling.
Q: Did you ever consider putting in a pool?
A: I think at one point there was a discussion about putting in a pool, but I was already
moved out of the house at that point but there is certainly room.
