INTERVIEW WITH
THE HOMEOWNER
Q: Why are you moving?
A: This has been a very difficult decision. We have put so much love into this property and really did
design it to be our forever home. We created spacious rooms and an apartment for adult children (and
grandkids) an in-law space with no steps but plenty of light and space for future needs, so we never
thought we would be downsizing. But we bought a magnificent Inne in Waterford Maine that our girls
run and we spend so much time up there now. We decided to buy a smaller place locally and Maine will
become the gathering spot for the family.
Q: What made you fall in love with the house?
A: Everything. It was originally a small 1930's colonial and I actually knocked on the owners door when
I saw the for sale by owner sign go up. It was love at first site. The location was ideal as I had 3 young
kids and I was living in Greenfield hill at the time. The convenience for school sports, shopping,
activities, the beach, the train, my office....everything was only a few minutes away. The charm of the
home captured my heart and my husband, a craftsman builder, put his heart and soul into creating a
space we thought we would be in for years to come.
Q: Can you put in a pool?
A: Yes, there is definitely room and we thought about it but we travel a lot in the summers so we just
decided against it. Plus, the neighbors have one! This is city sewer so no worries about septic in
the way!
Q: Are the neighbors friendly?
A: Absolutley! This is the best neighborhood in Fairfield...1 acre zoning gives everyone space and
privacy but there is comraderie and frienshwip throughout the year. Whether borrowing a cup of
sugar, asking a neighbor to keep an eye on the house when we travel, impromptu potluck dinners,
Halloween parades or just walking into town for a movie and dinner, the friendships created will last
a lifetime.
Q: Tell me about the grounds.
A: Like the rest of Winton Park, our property is spacious and parklike. I love that we have so much front
yard as the kids used to love playing soccer with neighbors walking by with their dogs cheering them
on. We wanted 2 driveways, one for the main house and one for in-law suite and apartment, as well
as for my husband's trucks and equipment. I really love the little "country lane" we created with
grass between the stone pebble drive. The fully fenced backyard is just magnificent. Tons of privacy
and perfect for entertaining. Whether sitting by the firepit roasting marshmallows, having huge
parties on the patio, picking fresh veggies throughout the seasons, picking raspberries, grapes, and
blueberries for breakfast in the summer, playing volleyball or cornhole under the lights at our annual
cornhole contest, 'or just chilling in the hammock, I will miss our property more than I can say.
