Chapter 5
Today must be the day that we arrive at Wood Lake,
thought Mirabel. There were so many lakes in that part
of the country. How would they know which one?
When they examined the map, however, they saw that
there were three larger lakes to watch for before they
found Wood Lake, with its unusual shape. All morning
they sailed, passing lakes and forests. An enormous blue
heron started to follow them. When they saw her, she
flapped her wings slowly and took the lead. She steered
them right to Conway's field, where they set the balloon
down beside an old apple tree.
Mirabel was so excited to be in this field, where her
mum had picked apples and raspberries when she was a
little girl. And here were Grampa and Gramma walking
toward them.
