SIMPLE REMEDIES TO TRY AT HOME
Health
Insomnia
Ingredients: 1 nutmeg mace; 1 mug boiling water
Method: Remove skin from mace of nutmeg. Place skinless mace in a paper or plastic
bag and crush with a hammer. Put in a mug and pour boiling water over the top. Allow
to stand for at least 30 minutes. Drink before going to bed. If the problem persists after
¾ days consult a doctor.
To Cool/Treat Spots and Pimples
Ingredients: Jasmine leaves
Method: Wash and pound the jasmine leaves into a paste. Apply to affected areas and
leave for 15 minutes. Wash off in warm water followed by rinsing in iced water. Repeat
as necessary.
To Avoid Catching Cold
Ingredients: 1 can Sprite lemonade; pinch of salt
Method: Add pinch of salt to a full glass of Sprite and drink before going to bed.
Repeat the following night if necessary.
Sore Throat Remedies Remedy (a)
Ingredients: 50–100 g fresh ginger; 1 ½ tumblers of water
Method: Peel and slice the ginger into fine strips. Boil in water for 5 minutes. Either
strain or pour off the liquid and drink while hot morning and evening till recovered.
Remedy (b)
Ingredients: Juice of lemon or thin-skinned lime (Jeruk nipis); 1 dessert spoon light
soy sauce
Method: Squeeze the lemon and mix the juice with light soy sauce and drink. Repeat
daily.
Cough Remedy
Ingredients: 1 medium sized onion; 1 spoon pure honey and / local lime (Jeruk nipis)

Method: Grate the onion, squeeze the lime and mix the ingredients together. The lime
juice and pulp is for binding the other ingredients. If you wish to increase the quantities,
triple (never double) the first two items and add to a single lime.
