               Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the effect of low dosage of gamma radiation on the morphological
development of Vanilla planifolia Andrews, that well known for its aroma and flavour. However, it
takes about 3 to 4 years for the plants to bloom and limited germplasm available for hybrid production.
In previous study, thirty cuttings of Vanilla planifolia (100 cm length) from Amani Vanilla Temerloh,
Pahang were irradiated. The source of gamma radiation was Caesium-137. The five cuttings each were
exposed to five doses of gamma radiation (0 Gy, 10 Gy, 20 Gy, 30 Gy, 40 Gy and 50 Gy) in December
2018. The cuttings were M1V1 (mutation 1 in vegetative 1). To continue the research in November
2021, M1V1 that still available (0 Gy, 10 Gy, 30 Gy, 40 Gy) was cultivated to form M1V2 (mutation 1
in vegetative 2). This study aimed to investigate the changes imposed by gamma radiation in growth
development to improve the variety of Vanilla Planifolia Andrews. All tested M1V2 exhibited various
                                                                                         th
growth developments. The M1V2 shoot growth record was taken every week till 24 week. The means
of shoot developments was significantly (P<0.05) different among different doses. The results showed
that the growth development of M1V2 plants at 0 Gy is highest compared with other doses of gamma
radiation in terms of shoot measurement (cm). The least active growth development was obtained from
               40 Gy.
