The fire destroyed
the packinghouse and
within three hours the
structure was a mass of
smoldering ruins.
The blaze caused
$265,000 damage to the
building, cold storage
equipment, bins and
boxes assembled on the
premises.
More than 50
Fire Fighters were
called to the scene shortly
after 5 pm and were
hampered by the lack of
hydrants in the area.
A line was run to the
nearest fire hydrant
500 yards away.
A nearby irrigation
ditch was dammed and
the water tapped by a
6-inch pumping line.
