Smart Aging

by Cllr. Paula Donovan

The World Health Organisation defines
Active Ageing as the process of optimising
opportunities for health participation and
security, in order to enhance quality of life
as people age.

I like to think of it as staying active will keep us well enough to maximise our
contribution to our families, our community and indeed to ourselves. We should not
view staying active as purely a physical concept, as it also includes the spiritual,
cultural and economic landscape we travel through as we age. Like any muscle, our
brain is as important a consideration in our quest to age well.
