MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

A Message from the Chairperson concerning the future
and the production of food.

To all Competitors in the Loy Championships, Supervisor, Time Keepers, Judges, & the Team who mark
out the plot for Loy Digging.

Competitors in skill digging come from the four winds - N. S. E W. We wish good luck to the
Championship of Loy Association - by taking part we are all winners.

A very small plot of land can produce self-sufficiency, or part of our veg and potatoes. You have to
sweat a little to gain. No need to go to the gymnasium. For physical exercise that produces food, use
your Loy; for your mental wellbeing (as children know getting your hands dirty is safe). Remember if
you live in a city, town or village get a Loy. Dig a little of your back garden or your front lawn and watch
your praties grow!

Thanks to Pat the Baker for years of sponsorship. If you have a belly full of Pat’s Brown Bread with Irish
Butter you will get to the end of your furrow.

Thank you to all the past members of Loy Association and the Executives who keep it going; and to
all the people who served with distinction in the past 25 years. Competitors from 16 to 80, skilled
craftsmen and women, will be taking part.

I hope you have an enjoyable, pleasant time at the Ploughing Championship.

I would like to thank Anna May McHugh and the directors of the National Ploughing Association for
their help and courtesy throughout the year

God speed Loy and all who use it.

Yours sincerely
Paddy Boyhan
