My Ariadne’s thread: Science
20.1 Introduction
The following path has enabled me to acquire a wealth of
practical knowledge in the nuclear field:
• Having studied the basics of nuclear physics.
• Having worked for 13 years at the IRE in Research &
Development for industrial applications, participating in
the construction and management of the cyclotron.
• Visited several nuclear research centres in Europe and
the Tihange nuclear power plant.
• Managed the IT department of the IRE and its
subsidiaries and spent two years developing new
management applications.
I find that I'm less interested in IT - in the broadest sense of
the term - which has accounted for over 25 years of my
professional life, than in research into nuclear physics and
cosmology.
Of course, I'm impressed by the evolution of computer
technologies, both for computers and for tablets and
smartphones.
When you bought, handled and programmed your first PC

in 1979, you can appreciate the gigantic evolution of
technologies, programming languages and computer
applications.
