My Ariadne’s thread: Science

              I liked to tell my students about the intrinsic value of
              information in science. Generally speaking:
              -  when you read a book, you're between 18 and 24 months
                 late:
              - when you read a magazine (monthly, quarterly...), you’re
                 between 12 and 18 months late;
              - when you take part in a "State of the art" seminar, you’re
                 between 6 and 12 months late;

              - when you tour a research centre and are asked to sign a
                 "Non-disclosure Agreement", you have an overview of the
                 situation and the outlook for 3 or 5 years or even longer.

                   This is a key point for large corporations who need to
                   change their working environments. They need to
                   have a medium- and long-term vision.
                   You can't change the global IT systems of companies
                   like McDonald's, Visa, Barclays Bank, Boeing,
                   General Motors... without knowing the technological
                   outlook for the years ahead.
