A DOUBLE WHAMMY!!!

                                     THE MONOLITHS, KAKADU NATIONAL PARK,

                                                NORTHERN TERRITORY

                                                                                           Di Thompson

Over the last year discussions and planning were in train for a 2020 winter trip to Darwin, the many
favourite Northern Territory camping and walking area and especially to The Monoliths. It was my
swansong to that area. I’d pay to have my ‘truck’ driven to Darwin, fly up and then take 2 months to
               drive back to Canberra.

               It was not to be.

First whammy, Marj King, long time friend and former leader in Willis’s Walkabout Tours who first
took me to The Monoliths, advised that the Aboriginal people no longer allowed visitation to The
               Monoliths.

Second and worse whammy, the Covid-19 virus, and we all know about that ……

So I come to my story of walking and visiting that very special area.

I first visited The Monoliths in June 1998 on a 10 day pack walking Willis’s Walkabout Trip that
included Twin Falls, the Badlands, Jim Jim Creek and much more. The party of NPA ACT bushwalkers
was led, by Marj. We overnighted at this stunning site. I was overwhelmed by its grandeur,
               peacefulness, pristine state and remoteness.
