SCIENCE
Miss Rachel Hopkins
We’ve had another jam-packed year of experimentsandamazementsaswe’ve explored the fascinating world around us in Science. 2014 has seen us butterfly breeding, food testing, and even live streaming with popular Physicist and ex Rock-Star, Professor Brian Cox OBE.
Science Week was again a huge success. The theme was Healthy Eating and we celebrated by learning all about food chemistry, taste testing and superfoods. We had some very creative entries to the Science Week video competition. The whole school embraced Science Week, with food tech lessons even being dedicated to making ‘Scientific Ice Cream’!
The senior students have been busy monitoring and recording the developments in our new Butterfly Farm, right from eggs hatching into caterpillars (who would only eat milkweed), forming cocoons and emerging as beautiful butterflies.
It was a rush at times to keep up with our silkworms’ appetites as they chomped through our mulberry leaf supplies, but thanks to the mulberry bushes in Mrs Hosken’s and Mrs Alderton’s gardens, every worm made a cocoon.
