Einige dieser über hundertjährigen Bodegas ndet man beispielsweise im alten Stationsviertel (Barrio de la Estación) der Stadt Haro, in El Ciego oder auch Logróño. Ein Besuch mit vorheriger Terminabsprache ist absolut zu empfehlen, spektakuläre Weinkeller und einzigartige Architektur laden mit anschließender Weinverkostung zum Verweilen ein.
Ab 1899 ging aber auch hier der Schädling über den Wurzelbefall ans Werk und die mühevolle Neubep anzung der Weinberge mit resistenten, amerikanischen Unterlagsreben dauerte bis Ende der 1910er-Jahre an; dann stabilisierte sich die Lage.

For some years, there has been a lively exchange of views on some of these guidelines, because since 1979, the classi cation of wines from the appellation on the different stages of development Joven, Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva have been taking place. Except for the Joven, these are de ned by the aging time in the barrel and in the bottle. Incidentally, the development in mostly American oak barrels is a de nite trademark of the Rioja wines and increases in time from Crianza to Reserva to Gran Reserva. The great elegant wines spend years in the barrel, without later having an overwhelming wooden taste.
The Joven (36%) and Crianza (42%) on the shelf have been the highest sellers for many years. A growing number of mostly younger producers, on the other hand, believe that Mother Earth should be included in the classi cations as a complementary option. Probably a very special detached location will be opened here, considering that the size of more than 80% of the parcels, the current 63,593 hectares of controlled acreage, amounts to just one hectare.

so wurde 1925/26 Spaniens erste Appellation (Denominación de Origen) mit angeschlossenem Kontrollrat, dem Consejo Regulador, gegründet, die seit 1991 auch als quali zierte Ursprungsbezeichnung D.O.Ca. geführt wird.
Von dort aus wird die Produktion vom Weinberg bis hin zum fertigen Produkt penibel überwacht, denn die qualitative Messlatte liegt sehr hoch. Die eingetragenen Produzenten, die ihre Flaschen mit dem Gütesiegel der Appellation schmücken dürfen, müssen natürlich auch gewisse Richtlinien umsetzen.
Seit einigen Jahren ist ein reger Meinungsaustausch über einige dieser Richtlinien entstanden, denn seit 1979 fanden die Klassi zierungen der Weine aus der Appellation über die verschiedenen Ausbaustufen Joven, Crianza, Reserva und Gran Reserva statt.
Diese de nieren sich außer beim Joven über die Reifezeit im Fass und in der Flasche. Der Ausbau im zumeist amerikanischen Barrique ist im Übrigen ein festes Markenzeichen der Rioja-Weine und steigt von Crianza über Reserva zu Gran Reserva

Rioja is red wine country and the kingdom of the Tempranillo grape. It is believed that its origins are in the cross between the white Albillo Mayor and the red Benedicto. Since 2007, it has also been considered an authorised white grape after it was discovered in 1988 to be a mutation on a vine in the Rioja Alta.
The Tempranillo grape currently occupies 75% of the total cultivated area of the red varieties. Untilthemidseventiesitwassecondbehindthe Garnacha, but only
20 years later a real boom took place here. This is mainly due to its rst-class properties for the different stages of development in the wood, as well as the pressing of young wines and their excellent adaptability to the conditions of the region.
