THE EXCEPTIONAL HARLEY FETTERMAN
December 25, 2016 at the family's Rancho de Huajillo Harley,
Beth commented about Christmas Eve. Jimmy Strause had the great
idea to start an annual event with the help of Kathy Freeborn Strause
and Kate Strause. Chris Strause and his family helped set it all up.
The family remembered that when Harley talked about Heaven, he
described that he wanted to live on the ranch and be able to go to the
beach.
It had been windy and rainy, but the bad weather paused long
enough for shooting off fireworks. Barely afterwards, the bad weather
started up again. It felt like Harley had asked a special favor of God to
help us have a great celebration. Beth commented in gratitude.
“As I watch the dying embers of the first annual Strause/
Freeborn/Fetterman Christmas Eve Bonfire and Fireworks Display, I
think how much Harley Fetterman would have loved this tradition—
not just because of the fireworks, but also because he knows how
much I love bonfires and fireworks; and he knows how much Kevin
Fetterman enjoys hanging out with family and friends. And because
he was a good kid who wanted his family to be happy!”
“Thank you to Jimmy Strause for the idea and to Kathy Freeborn
Strause and Kate Strause for organizing it and to Chris Strause and
his family for helping to set it all up! Love you all! Merry
Christmas!”
On July 2, 2017, Harley's parents spread part of his ashes at the
family ranch. On July 31, 2017, the first anniversary of Harley's
passing, beloved family and friends of Harley took him on one last
trip to Hawaii. Beth reflected on the day.
“Harley always said when he became rich, he would live in
Hawaii and I asked if I could at least live in a box at the end of his
driveway. Today we will set out to fulfill his dream of living in
Hawaii.”
“ I know it's only his ashes and he is in a much better place than
anything we could provide, but this is the best we can do for now. And
I guess I will be living in a box at the end of his driveway until God
sees fit to let me enter his home.”
“I love you Harley! Have fun dividing by zero!”
