Life’s an Adventure
by Martha Goodfellow
My fishing adventure started as a young girl. Our family spent time fishing and camping. Mostly we fished for trout,
crappie and bluegills. Occasionally we’d go bass fishing. I’d say my Mom was my biggest fishing influence and my Dad
was very supportive. Lucky girl for sure!
Adventure continued when I met and married Don. I shared my love of trout fishing & camping with him and next
thing that happened, he met friends at work that were talking about bass fishing. Eventually our “one trout pole each,”
became a collection of poles dedicated to bass fishing and that led us to fishing local tournaments.
Jumping from local tournaments to a ladies tour was a big step for me. In 2019 I started fishing as a co-angler with the
Women’s Bassmaster Tour. I was so impressed with the total experience; fishing with knowledgeable and supportive
pros, competing, making friends, fishing new lakes, facing challenges and even winning a boat. After the first season, I
immediately signed up for the next year. Unfortunately, that tour was canceled. That one year I did fish the ladies tour
taught me how important a ladies tour is. I am a big supporter of encouraging ladies to jump in and challenge them-
selves with new adventures. When I learned the lady anglers were forming their own tour, run by and supported by the
lady anglers it made it easy for me to commit to fishing LBAA.
I started as a co-angler with LBAA. After a couple of years, I recognized that it was important to grow the participation
at the Pro/Boater level. Thanks to my husband for helping me learn & practice my boating and electronics skills as I
transitioned to the “front of the boat.”
Now, LBAA is over 10 years old and still growing and attracting new ladies from across the country. It has been an awe-
some adventure for sure. Now is the time for me to announce my retirement from the tour. Trust me, this has not been
an easy decision. I have been blessed with many friends from fishing LBAA and have learned so much. Plus, I have
enjoyed fishing lots of lakes and rivers across the southeast. A sincere thank you to all the sponsors and localities that
have supported the LBAA tour.
I’d like to take a few words to express my appreciation to my awesome sponsors. It has been an honor to represent some
of the best products in the fishing industry. A Big Thank you to: KISSEL KRAFTS CUSTOM RODS As an angler, it
is important to fish with quality gear. I value and appreciate that I learned about Kissel Krafts Rods. I can’t say enough
about the quality of the rods they make and their commitment to customer care.
YO-ZURI (Quality Fishing Lures and Lines) My Yo-Zuri appreciation be-
gan when I learned how to drop shot. The friend
that taught me, shared that he only used Yo-Zuri’s
Hybrid Line, 8lb test. I highly recommend the Hy-
brid line! After 10 years of fishing with Yo-Zuri’s lures
and lines, I have seen their commitment to the quality
of their products. Over the years, Yo-Zuri has sponsored
the lady anglers, both Pro and Co’s, by providing prizes
at each of the LBAA tournaments. I am happy to announce that Yo-Zuri will continue
their sponsorship of LBAA for 2023. LBAA angler, Cassie Hall, will be the new Yo-Zuri
representative.
LEWS Quality fishing reels made it possible to make the long casts I needed and are the
best built to bring in the big bass and the quality to last.
