            • Latin Experience I- (Age 13and up) This course begins with learning the 6 cases, which are the 6 different ways

nouns can be used. This is the most unfamiliar aspect of Latin for English speakers. We practice with games to
put words into the different cases. A few basic verbs will enable students to make sentences until the case
system is mastered. We will begin work in the Oxford Latin Course part I and, if everyone is diligent, start part II
               in January.

Classes are 1.5 hours long, part of which is used for games on the board to help master the different cases and

tenses. These are FUN. Really. Candy is dispensed for prizes.
Homework (grammar exercises) will be assigned in class on Mondays, to be handed in online Thursdays by noon.
It will be corrected and returned Saturdays. This will allow students to be better able to read the weekly

translation which will be read aloud in the following Monday class.
Course emphasis will be on writing and thinking in Latin, not simply to read what someone else has written.

Taking the National Latin Exam in March is required. This is a nationally recognized exam, and will certify a
student's progress in Latin to any university in the USA. For more information, go to NLE.org.
The Latin students of 2016-2017 did handsomely in the NLE, bringing in several awards. Check out the Honors

               and Accomplishments site at Quest.

***Abebooks.com is a good place to get used textbooks at reasonable prices. Amazon.com also is a good

source, though often more expensive than Abebooks.com.

            • Latin Experience 2- (Age 13 and up.) We will review with part II of the Oxford Latin Course. Naturally students
have been reading Latin all summer and have not forgotten the first 3 declensions or the conjugations.
As soon as all students are competent in part II, we will move into Oxford Latin Course, part III, and selected
               intermediate readings.
Possible texts include Cupid and Psyche, Aesop's Fables, Res Gestae Simii Pilosi Nasonis, or extracts from
modern Latin works, such as Ursus Nomine Paddington.

Classes are 1.5 hours long. There will be time set aside in class for drills on the board. Remember how much
fun they are? Candy is dispensed for prizes.

Homework will be assigned Mondays, and will be due online by Fridays at noon, and will be corrected and
returned by Saturday. This will permit students to more easily read the translation, which will be read aloud in
               class the following Mondays.

Taking the National Latin Exam in March is required. This is a nationally recognized exam, and will certify a
student's progress in Latin to any university in the USA. For more information, go to NLE.org.
Our students did handsomely in the 2017 NLE. Good work!
