             	  •  Honors High School English Year 1   (11 and 12th grades) **May be offered 2018-2019** -


                                                                                                 An accelerated class
               that requires students to think deeply and richly about both fiction and non-fiction, this course offers a blend of
               classic and contemporary   works from authors of diverse backgrounds. Thus, students will be exposed to authors
               ranging   from Shakespeare to Rudolfo Anaya. This course places a heavy emphasis on a variety of writing/
               reading skills/ It further develops students’ vocabulary, grammar, and habits of   mind and thinking skills/ !s well,
               students, individually as well as collaboratively, will conduct/write several in-depth research papers. Required

             	  •  Honors High School English Year 2   (11 th   & 12 th   grades) This course is for 11th and 12th grade students to
               prepare them   to take the AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition exams


               in May. This course will be   heavily concentrated on independent reading, close analysis of both fiction and


               nonfiction text, and   collegiate level composition. Students will be reading non-fiction articles and composing

               essays every week in addition to   maintaining an individual reading log of at least two novels per semester.

               Prior to the start of the school year, students taking this course must read E/ /   White’s Elements of Style, and
               either Bleak House or A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, and submit a two-page analysis of the way



               Dickens develops the reader’s favorite   character/ This is due on the first day of class/ Required Texts: pending

             	  •  Creative Writing & Composition-  In this creative writing course, your 8th-12th grader will learn how to write

               engaging fiction by developing characters, setting, establishing clear   rising action, including a climax, falling
               action, and a denouement. This course will explore literary elements and figurative language applying creative

               writing to a variety   of genres including short stories, skits, and poetry. Required Texts: pending Teacher: Keira

                sixth, seventh, eighth, 6th, 7th, 8th
             	  •  Middle School English       - In this IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing) In this IEW (Institute for Excellence in

               Writing) based class, your 6 th   -8 th grader will read quality source texts teaching them about U.S. History while

               learning to   effectively write using structure and style. In addition, this class will incorporate vocabulary

               development. As we move through the units, your middle schooler will develop their: speaking skills; grammar,
               word   choice, and sentence fluency; ability to summarize and write stories and research reports. Each week, 2-3


               hours of homework will be assigned and parental supervision   and guidance will be required. Teacher: Keira
