About 30 minutes from Reno are the Carson City golf areas,
with Carson Valley (45 minutes from Reno), which each add
the links tapestry of the region. Carson Valley is made up of
several playable and memorable golf courses, each played
in the unique northern Nevada environment and setting.
Architect John Harbottle III worked with PGA Tour leg-
ends Peter Jacobsen and Johnny Miller for Genoa Lakes
and Genoa Ranch golf clubs. The par 72, 7,258-yard Lakes
host U.S. Open qualifying and other top tournaments while
the par 72, 7,359-yard Ranch course is “built for power
and distance and offers wide open spaces and unmatched

high-desert views.” Enjoy playing one or both courses. Built
for power and distance, the Ranch Course cuts into the rug-
ged Sierra Nevada foothills, just two miles from the Lakes
Course. Luxury and performance are the name of the game
on the Lakes Course, with rolling fairways over the eastern
slopes of the breathtaking Sierra Nevada.
The focus at the par 71, 6,020-yard Carson Valley Golf Club
is affordable, friendly golf that is very popular with begin-
ners, kids and seniors. Serious golfers also enjoy playing
the links found along the Carson River and in the shade of
giant cottonwood trees. The recent addition of one of the
fastest growing sports, FootGolf, has expanded the offer-

golf journey. The cool rush of the Carson River and natural
shade of the century-old cottonwood trees give this course
a unique character unlike anywhere in Northern Nevada.
The par 72, 6,914-yard Sunridge Golf Course was designed
for players of all skill levels, and proves challenging while
played with a relaxing and picturesque backdrop. From the
incredible Eastern Sierra Nevada mountain scenery and
wildlife, to the manicured fairways and challenging green
complexes, Sunridge Golf and Recreation has it all. Overall,
golf in Carson Valley is just part of the activities found in
this historic, western area.

Outdoor enthusiasts are never bored in the Carson Valley.
With an average of 300 days of sunshine, the region has
four distinct seasons with temperatures commonly in the
80s and 90s during the summer and typically higher eleva-
tion snowcapped peaks in the winter. There are more than
50 miles of mountain biking, hiking, and equestrian trails
to conquer. Most are dog friendly and several offer spe-
cial discovery guides for children. For those who prefer to
explore under power, the area’s many ATV and Off Highway
