IN PUBLIC ART
he movement to beautify and create interest in
Tdowntown Medford was spearheaded by local busi-
ness owners so invested in the cause that they are using
their own funds to commission art works. In July of
ART PICK known as Edon to paint a mural on the entire South side Schoolhaus Brewhaus Mural
2018, Linda Donovan hired Brandon Rands and an artist
of her downtown tasting room, The Urban Cork.
The Medford Arts Commission and Downtown Medford
Association are also bringing more public art to
Medford. The Medford Arts Commission changed their
bylaws to include murals in their public art acquisition
policy. The first mural they produced was by Colorado
artist Yulia Avgustinovich, and depicts the history of
Medford with a nod to the Pear Blossom Festival. It can
be seen in Vogel Plaza.
In the summer of 2019, Emerald Triangle Dispensary on
10th Street commissioned local artist Caroline Buxton
to paint a colorful mural on an entire side of its building.
Medford artists Ryan and Janice Moon, along with
apprentice Adrian Chavez, recently painted a privately
commissioned mural at the Schoolhaus Brewhaus in
Jacksonville. Another Janice Moon mural installed
on Bartlett Street in Medford is one of five additional
murals painted by various artists in the coming months.

Most recently, Kids Unlimited Academy hired interna-
tionally recognized mural artist Xavi Panneton to make
“the outside reflect all of the positive work that happens
inside.”
More murals and public art can be found in the cities
of Ashland, Rogue River, Grants Pass, Jacksonville, and
Klamath Falls.
