Repentance from sin
this : while we were still sinners, Christ died for us'
2. Salvation is great because of how much it cost.
Mankind, being trapped in sin, needed to be ransomed, like a
hostage who has been taken prisoner. Matthew 20 v28
'the son of man did not come to be served but to serve,
and to give His life as a ransom for many.'
Giving His life means not just the one He lived as a man but
the one in which He died and the death from which He was
raised back to life.
Why did the Son of God become a man and go through all
this so that men could be saved? Hebrews 2 v14 'Since
the children (God's) have flesh and blood, he too shared
in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy
him who holds the power of death - that is the devil - and
free all those who were held in slavery by their fear of
death.'
Any teaching that denies that the purpose of Christ was to
come to this world as a real man, to die for the sins of
mankind, and be raised from the dead in bodily form
undermines completely the hope of Salvation for men.
3. Salvation is great because of its simplicity and its
universality.
The terms of salvation can be understood by a child.
Acts16 v30,31 'What must I do to be saved? Believe on
the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.'
John 1 v12 'But as many who received Him, to them He
gave power to become the Sons of God, even to them
that believe on His name.'
