What a Christian Believes
The Baptism in the Holy Spirit IS NOT AN OPTIONAL
EXTRA, but a necessity.
What happens to the one baptised?
There are examples in the New Testament of believers being
Baptised in the Holy Spirit. Here are three of them.
1. After Jesus ascended into heaven the disciples waited
and prayed together. There came the sound of a
mighty rushing wind and filled the house where they
were as the HOLY SPIRIT came. Acts 2 v4 'All of
them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
speak in other tongues (languages) as the Spirit
enabled them.'
2. Peter was at the house of Cornelius, a Roman
centurion; and was speaking to a mixed gathering of
Jewish and gentile believers. Acts10 v44,45,46
'Whilst he was still speaking...., the Holy Spirit
came on all who heard the message. The
circumcised (Jewish) believers who had come with
Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy
Spirit had been poured out even on the gentiles
(non-Jews). For they heard them speaking in
tongues and praising God.'
3. When Paul had travelled to Ephesus and spoke with
those who did not know that there was a Holy Spirit, it
goes on to say in Acts 19 v6 'When Paul placed his
hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, they
spoke in tongues and prophesied.'
In each of these cases, as with others referred to in the New
Testament, when the Holy Spirit baptises, there is a
manifestation of the supernatural in those who are receiving.
