Baptisms

This was foretold approximately 800 years before Jesus, by
the prophet Joel.

Joel 2 v28,29,30 'And afterwards I will pour out my Spirit
on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams, your young men will
see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show
wonders in the heavens and on the earth...'

With the Baptising of, or in the Spirit comes spiritual
manifestations. In the accounts in ACTS, the common
manifestation is 'They began SPEAKING IN TONGUES'.

This is an ability to begin to speak in a language that has not
been learned and comes quite suddenly, as the Holy Spirit
is poured by Jesus over the christian who asks to receive.

It is not a fearful event because it is Jesus who is giving
the gift of speaking this new language, which is intended
for intimate contact between the christian and his/her master.
This is a personal gift for the believer. Later will follow gifts of
the Holy Spirit, which are given to individuals but which are
for the good of the whole church. These include prophecy,
healing, discerning wrong spirits, miracles and interpreting
tongues.
