When putting a window in a building, there is only one way to put it in correctly. Software is a very different medium. There are many ways to do everything. A window doesn’t even have to be a window. It can take whatever form or function can be imagined that will enhance the efficiency and utility of the operation to be performed. It can be whatever works best for the user. A given feature can even work differently depending on who is using it.
Decorate the Room
Just as in creating a work of art, business software is created best when it can evolve over time and is made visible during the process. Instead of building the room, creating software is more like decorating the room. When decorating, we are free to try different things, different combinations and colors and placements. The decorated room evolves through the process. We try things and find that we don’t like them. We try other things that we like and keep.
