Nevertheless, here’s a sincere kowtow to the millions of happy marriages or monogamies that do exist, and
a respectful genuflection of the over 56 million extant American marriages. 35 What a miraculous life for
those who fell in love with their first sweetheart and stayed gloriously, creatively married for a lifetime. They never felt the terrible sting of being dumped, or the less devastating, but more corrupting, guilt of dumping.
Fisher made a study at Case Western Reserve college and found that “93% of both sexes reported they had been spurned by someone they passionately loved.”36 This is no great cross-section of America
and my inability to find other statistics shows again
the dearth of information about love. Let’s launch
a National Health Institute study of love! But, it is suggestive that at least half have so experienced. I mean, with a 50% breakup rate such a number makes mathematical sense. Then you add that to the numerous breakups many people have, and I presume the number goes up.
Nevertheless, as previously noted, good marriages have helped spawn a romantic religion that is still fervently worshipped. It should be worshipped. Marriage is a type of religion that definitely works!
