Year 5 (U10) Cricket
During this year the boys are introduced to a hard ball, pads and helmets! Activities are controlled with greater emphasis on technique. On occasions practices may take place in the nets where technique is pressurised owing to the intensity of participation. Small-sided games are also used to develop more of an understanding of the game and leadership skills are introduced with the intention of improving decision making. We have just adopted the new playing model from the EC and WCB to encourage greater participation for all.
Year 6 (U11) Cricket
The purpose of this practice is to bring together the skills and techniques worked on during the boys’ time at the Junior School. This is achieved through net work, small clinics and small-sided games. This is a very popular activity and helps the boys develop their skills and for those who play outside school gives them a head start. The intention is to develop team skills and understanding of the game so that school representation is a possibility. We have just adopted the new playing model from the EC and WCB to encourage greater participation for all.
Fencing
The boys are very fortunate to be coached by Professor Cormack, a former Vice-Chairman of the BAF. He has coached at Junior and Senior World Cup level events. Many boys have learnt skills rapidly under his tutelage and have progressed through foil and épée awards. We have had two nationally ranked fencers as a result of Professor Cormack’s skill and enthusiasm as a coach. Full equipment is provided. Two clubs operate weekly, a beginner and advanced.
