Year 3 and 4 Multi Sports
Boys use this opportunity to learn motor skills in a controlled way. There is plenty of competition and fun as boys further develop their skills and team principles. A variety of activities are used including throwing, catching, evasion and striking.
Year 3 (U8) Rugby/Football
During the Michaelmas term, basic rugby skills of handling, running, passing and catching are worked on. This is achieved in a relaxed atmosphere of drills and small-sided games. In the Lent term, more emphasis is placed on attack and defence team principles, leading to full match conditions, whether inter-school, inter- house or inter-class.
The football club will help build boys’ skills in dribbling with the ball, control of the ball, possession of the ball as well as game awareness and understanding of basic tactics. Boys will normally begin the session with drills and skill workshops which build in difficulty week by week and at the end of most weeks these skills are used in some sort of game-based activity, either mini-matches or full 7/8 a-side games.
Year 4 (U9) Rugby
Passing, running, evading and contact skills are all worked on to ensure boys learn in a competitive environment. Small-sided games take place to maximise contact time with the ball in hand, drills to learn and develop and competitive games to put into practise their learning.
