French Club
French Club is an excellent opportunity for boys to develop the four key language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The boys enjoy working on a variety of fun activities such as poems, presentations and podcasts which are closely monitored by our French assistant. Not only is this club here to develop the boys' confidence but it also aims to improve their pronunciation and understanding of the language.
Upper School Maths in Motion
Boys are invited to this club by consultation with their Maths teachers in Year 5 and Year 6. Those attending need to be confident mathematicians who can master long multiplication, measuring with a protractor and work on ratio and proportion. These skills are used to measure a Formula 1 track, identify the features and then use these to design the best car they can. Boys work on the web with their own school based login. They go through workshop adjustments, safe speed calculations and practice laps to secure a grid position. Pit-team briefing calculates fuel and pit stops before they finally enter a race. After each practice lap they have to analyse their results to improve their car and grid position. This work is done individually and in groups. The Maths in Motion program is now world wide and there are fortnightly challenges that are based on fastest lap times or whole races. the ultimate aim is to compete in the World Final in May.
