 Rising Strings
This is one of the few groups where there is no music! String players come together each week to have lots of fun exploring playing music ‘by ear’ and working on developing their aural and ensemble skills. They learn a variety of rock and pop songs and perform in all of the main school concerts, sometimes with a bit of movement too!
3 Junior Rock Bands
These groups of enthusiastic musicians meet weekly to explore the ‘World of Rock!’ in groups. They learn about basic ensemble skills and are encouraged to practise in their own time as well as within the school club. Instruments are mainly: guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, drums and vocalists, although other instruments are considered. They are one of the most popular items in the school concert each term. A good grasp of their instrument’s technique is required.
String Orchestra
Warwick Junior School has a thriving string department with over 40 boys having individual lessons on a string instrument at school. This is the place where they all meet! With the exception of absolute beginners, all string players are encouraged to play in the String Orchestra which provides the boys with a part that they are able to play, regardless of how long they have been playing. They play fun rounds, pop tunes and pieces designed to stretch players of all standards which culminates in concert performances.
String Quartet
The String Quartet is for four string players at the very top of their game in the Junior School. It is the traditional combination of two violins, viola and a cello. They explore a wide variety of music which is far more difficult than the other string groups and always perform without a conductor at the school concerts each term.
