p duce pick: CRANBERRIES
Cranberries are small red berries that grow on
low shrubs or vines up to seven feet long and
two to eight feet tall. They are native to North
America and are primarily grown in the northern
United States, Canada, and Chile. Cranberries
are green but turn red when ripe. Cranberries
are grown in bogs, which makes harvesting
them easy. In their natural state, cranberries have
a strong, acidic, and bitter taste. For this reason,
cranberry products are often mixed with sugar
or sweeter juices to taste better. You can find
cranberries in juice, sauce, jam, or sweetened and
dried. They can also be eaten fresh.
These tiny berries are high in nutrients
and antioxidants. They provide many
health benefi ts, such as managing urinary
tract infections, improving heart health,
and fi ghting cancer. Its high levels of the
antioxidant proanthocyanidin relieve urinary
tract infections by preventing some bacteria
from sticking to the urinary tract walls.
