If it is worth doing, it’s worth

                                        doing on purpose!

That was our first rule. After that, we started
talking about different things. How many
weekends should we go away each year? How
much vacation time should we have? How often

do we want our children to see their
grandparents? How often do we want to have
cousins come together? We've been doing this
planning part for probably ten years in my
                                business practice. Succession planning for
                                family businesses necessitated estate

planning. We were doing business planning for
our clients. We were doing the family plan for
our family. Now we're doing these succession
plans that involve estate planning. It just kind
of became natural that we would do it “on

                                purpose”.

The idea of business owners saying, "I want my
kids to get it but I want them to earn it. I don't
want them to be spoiled by this thing.” It really

came from the clients. We’d say, “Okay, yeah.
We can do that. We can figure that out. That's
kind of how I slipped into this values-based
                                estate planning fifteen years ago.”
