Shared Interest Group Announcements
CRI (Conservatives, Republicans, and Independents)
Our August meeting featured Shanti Landon. She gave us updates on
some projects in our County. September’s meeting will be just as
informative. We will hear from Placer County District Attorney,
Morgan Gire. This will be a meeting that you won’t want to miss so
save the date, September 7th at 6:30.
Another date that you may want to save is October 7th. Our Annual CRI who are in the midst of achieving their university degree after serving
BBQ will have Congressman Kevin Kiley as our guest speaker. Watch
for more information in the next couple of weeks.

Club Crafters
Whatever your craft or hobby is, we would like to invite you to join
us. We meet every Tuesday at 10 AM in the library. Dig out those
unfinished projects and come have a cup of coffee with us, and I
guarantee lots of good conversation and laughs. We would like to invite
new residents to stop by anytime and come see what we are doing and
perhaps entice you to join our group.
We also accept yarn and needlework items you no longer want. If you

Club Trekkers
As September is normally temperature transition month we conduct
some hikes at higher elevations where it will be cooler, and then
transition to lower elevation hikes. The hikes will be on the first and
third Tuesdays of each month and the Saturdays immediately following
those Tuesdays. On the other Saturdays of the month we conduct
neighborhood walks. Two days before each hike or walk we send out an
email with details regarding the next hike or walk to members of the
Club Trekkers. Extreme heat may change the hikes and walks.

Club Veterans
During our recent Vets’ July meeting Roy Vanoni our Board President
announced he will be stepping down at the end of this year. He is
approaching his 90th birthday and wanted a much-deserved break.
Retiring he will not be an option; Roy will become the latest Past
President and will still be an active member on various levels. Our
nominating committee is now in full swing and will begin our annual
September 2023
Club Veterans
election process of new officers in the coming year in January 2024.
In addition, it was decided that the group will continue to donate funds to
William Jessup University so we can complete our mission in the final
completion of their first Veteran’s Resource Center there. As far as we
know it is the first one of its kind in Placer County that serves veteran’s
their country. It gives them a quiet place to study and if need be, access a
liaison officer with the VA to gain additional benefits in achieving their
educational goals. The goal of WJU is to have every vet to graduate from
the university without any debt. We concur and want to support that
landmark goal.
It was further decided and approved by the membership that for the first
time the Vets group will establish a scholarship program thru the
university to assist qualified veteran students in reaching their
educational objectives. Stay tuned for further information as we move
forward.
The Club Veterans Group will be conducting a fundraising drive during
the next two months. We will be collecting old, slightly worn and even
very worn sneakers of any size. Your donation will help raise funds for
Homeless and Disabled Veterans. It will also assist in providing funding
for programs aimed at combating veteran suicide, currently averaging 22
per day. To donate, please drop your unwanted sneakers in the large
barrel located inside the main entrance of The Retreat. The Club Vets
thank you for your support.
Cornhole
Cornhole is a game where teams of 2 players take turns throwing bean
bags at a raised, angled board with a hole in the far end. The goal is to
land the bean bags in the hole or on top of the board. We establish teams
each time from a lottery draw. We ask for $2 as we use the funds for
prizes at the end of the evening. Weather dictates if we play inside in the
Wellness Room or outside under the covered patio. Play for September
will be on the 4th, 6th, 18th, and 20th. Monday play is at 1:00 pm and
Wednesday play is at 5:30 pm.
A sign-up email is sent out approximately one week before scheduled
play. We have had great turnout so in order to give everyone a chance to
play, we ask that initially you only sign up for your first choice. Then
place your name on the wait list for the other day. If there is room for
additional players, we will notify the players from the waitlist.
All new players are welcome!
Cribbage
MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS @ 10AM CRIBBAGE IS PLAYED
AT THE CLUB UNTIL NOON
Come play CRIBBAGE with us every Monday and/
or Wednesday from 10am to noon. We play two and
three handed and partners with four. Cards are drawn
to see who plays with whom. If you have not played
in a long time, no problem, we will go slow and
reacquaint you to the game. We have 12 to 20
members and play to have fun and enjoy each others
company. If you would like to play Cribbage drop in
