Come join us on October 4 at 1:00PM in The Retreat Wellness Room for After a 2-month hiatus, the Helping Hands Steering Committee had their
politics, food and maybe even a little spooky fun! It’s our Annual
Halloween Luncheon Potluck and Celebration. Bring a dish and wear a
costume, if you’d like. A prize will be awarded for the best scary,
creative, or fun dish. Boo!
The Democratic Forum is very excited to welcome Ryan Ronco,
Registrar of Voters/County-Clerk for Placer County, as our November
featured speaker. Some Americans today are worried about unproven
evidence of uncounted votes, voting machine issues, and rigged
elections. As the top voting authority in the county, Ryan can address all be a part of the card committee to send out cards, please email Marilyn.

Digital World Club
The Digital World Club’s (DWC’s) next meeting will be held on
Wednesday, September 13, at 10 AM in The Retreat library room.
The meeting will be a traditional membership workshop. With so many
new technologies to keep track of, it can seem overwhelming to adapt.
Members will be able to exchange impressions about their favorite
devices, likes/dislikes about features, apps, and issues. Feel free to bring version on the current 2023 card which is ordered from the National Mah
your device for some hands-on support and sharing.

Hand and Foot
Hand and Foot is a card game played Fridays at The
Retreat, from 2 pm until around 4 pm. Cards are drawn
prior to playing to determine who plays together.
(Players should arrive by 1:50 p.m. in order to draw

Helping Hands 2.0
monthly meeting on August 9th, with lots of topics to discuss.
It is very sad to announce that Beb Mumm, a long-time member of the
Steering Committee and chair of the Thinking of You Committee that
sends out cards, passed away earlier this month. We will miss her
terribly and are very thankful for her friendship and service.
Taking over her duties is Marilyn Lane. So, when you wish us to send a
card to a neighbor who might be ill, had surgery or lost a loved one,
please email her at mlane1005@gmail.com. Also, for those wishing to
holding conversations with those who would like to talk to us about this
position. We will be doing that the week of September 5. Please email
judypanish@yahoo.com by Sept 1st if you are interested.
We are currently working on a new concept for our Coffee and Chat
which will start in January. We will keep you updated!
We are getting ready for the Club Open House with our Chili/Hot Dog
Booth on October 6, 4-6pm. You won’t want to miss it.
It’s almost fall, so hang in there and keep cool!

Mah Jongg
MAH JONGG IS PLAYED ON TUESDAY AFTERNOONS FROM 1-3
P.M. AT THE CLUB.
Mah Jongg is a game of skill and luck played with tiles and a card with
set hands with three to four people per table. We play the American
Jongg League. Experienced and beginning players are welcome. We can

Orchid Group
As we enter the last quarter of 2023, I hope you’re beginning to be a
little more confident about the care of your orchids. If not, don’t worry,
it can take years to feel confident. Dave, David and I still kill orchids
occasionally. You can build your confidence if you come to the
September meeting. On September 8th at 1:00 pm, David Veach will be
presenting Orchids: 102. He showed us some beautiful orchids during
his Orchids: 101 presentation at the January meeting. Orchids: 102 will
be more of the same with a “deeper dive” into the different varieties and
care of orchids. He will be showing some wonderful photographs of his
orchids. There is no need to RSVP for this meeting.
We will be offering “diagnostic” exams of your orchids that you may be
worried about or have questions about so bring them along. If you
plastic bag so you don’t contaminate the healthy orchids at the meeting.
We will also be having the “Show and Tell” table so bring your orchids
that are in bloom so we can all enjoy them. As usual there will be a
raffle of orchids, you may get lucky and take home a new orchid!
