                                  Colonics

A colonic (also called colonic hydrotherapy or colon irriga-
tion) is the infusion of water into the rectum by a colon
therapist to cleanse and flush out the colon. Colonics and
enemas both aim to cleanse the colon by introducing
water by way of the rectum. Although the two methods
are similar in approach and in their health benefits, there
are some distinct differences between colonics and ene-
           mas.

Enemas involve a one-time infusion of water into the
colon. Colonics involve multiple infusions of water into the
colon. The main objective of enemas is to evacuate the
lower colon, while colonics are meant to cleanse a larger
part of the colon. The colonic is more thorough and may
be more beneficial depending on what the problem and
           illness is.

Unlike enemas, which can be performed at home with the
help of do-it-yourself kits, colonics require specialized
equipment and must be administered by a trained colon
           therapist.

During the colonic warm, filtered water is slowly released
into the colon. The water causes the muscles of the colon
to contract, called peristalsis. Peristalsis "pushes" feces
out through the hose to be disposed in a closed waste
system. During this process, the colon therapist may
apply light massage to the client's abdominal area to
           facilitate the process.

You’ll want to find an experienced colonics therapist that
knows what she/he is doing. The therapist should ask you
questions about your health history to be sure there are
no contraindications for you to receive the colonics. In
addition, the therapist should perform a simple external
