Mannequins brought to

‘life’ by artists

The Art and Design Department launched a series of workshops for pupils across the Senior School. A
needle felting course was started by Mrs Jamieson, while Miss Statham and Mrs McGirr began a life
drawing programme for S6 Advanced Higher artists. In terms of the latter, we had to be a little more
creative with our ‘life’ models given the restrictions that were placed on us due to Covid-19 – as the
images demonstrate. Nonetheless, our mannequins behaved very well and allowed pupils to ease into
easel drawing on a large scale.

Fleet sets

reflect on

lockdown

Junior School pupils created and decorated
origami boats to help them think about their
experiences in lockdown.
The boats were arranged in the Quad
to symbolise that we were physically back
together at school as a Heriot’s community.
Pupils wrote messages on their boats
to convey both the positive and negative
emotions they experienced during the
lockdown period.
