Art and Design
Competitions
S1 pupils enjoyed exploring the topic ‘Repeat’, using the medium of
photography. There were a large number of fantastic entries when
we ran the competition in both Block 1 and 2. A number of pupils
were highly commended, but we could only have one winner in each
block: well done to pupils Samantha Ross and Susannah Nuttall.
Meanwhile, S2 pupils learned more about digital drawing using
Google SketchUp for an architectural competition to design a house.
Again, there were a number of pupils who were highly commended
for their ideas and presentation, and the winners this time were
Louie Forbes and Dylan Gillespie.
RSA Schools Art Awards
Each year the RSA run a fantastic competition for schools’ art
and design work. This year Heriot’s fared very well and a number
of skilful and creative students received commendations for their
artistry. We were absolutely delighted that Eliza Davis achieved
second prize in the senior section, winning £150. This prize was just
what she needed to complete the criteria required for her to be the
first recipient of art and design colours – a double accolade. Well
done, Eliza: a great ambassador for George Heriot’s art and
design.
Congratulations were also in order for Fergus Broomfield whose
work featured in The John Byrne Award competition, earning Fergus
half colours. We wish him every success in his further artistic pursuits
as he goes on to study architecture.
