Fuelling the industry that keeps South Africa moving
Some of the benefciaries
n a first of its kind, the W&RSETA has partnered with PetroConnect to contribute towards the transformation of the fuel retail industry
Ithrough skills development.
The R21 million Service Station Readiness Programme was conceptualised to develop 1 000 individuals with SMME and entrepreneurial
skills to become fuel retailers or manage service stations.
The programme equipped aspiring fuel retailers with the skills and knowledge to enter into the fuel retail market and empower those
who wish to pursue a career in the sector as service station managers, supervisors, etc. The mentorship programme prepared aspiring
fuel retailers with the skills to handle interviews with oil companies and funding institutions for franchising opportunities.
The project commenced in October 2020 and is being implemented in four phases until its completion in March 2022. Some of the
key strategic partners are the three major South African oil companies; BPSA, Engen and Astron Energy (Caltex). The significant benefit
of the project is that over 1 000 permanent jobs will be created through new franchises.
The project is already bearing fruit and these are some of the success stories:
