W&RSETA launches its third

     Wholesale and Retail Leadership Chair



                                                              Margaret Bango spoke on behalf  of the W&RSETA Board
          n 4 July 2022,  the W&RSETA marked another major    Chairperson expressing their delight  and remarked  that  the
     Omilestone in its research and collaboration efforts with the   WRLC supports the W&RSETA’s commitment to professionalise the
     official launch of the third  Wholesale and Retail Leadership Chair   Wholesale and Retail Sector through innovative research.
     (WRLC). The   Gauteng  WRLC was established in 2020 and is
     housed at the University of Johannesburg. Through collaboration  Fulfilling a priority of skills demand
     between industry, labour, and institutions of higher learning, the
     WRLC initiative seeks to professionalise the Wholesale and Retail
     Sector through  research and the development of qualifications at
     a higher level up to NQF level 10.

     Great history repeats itself


     The W&RSETA made history  with the launch of the first  retail
     leadership chair in Africa at the Cape Peninsula University of
     Technology in 2011 and replicated the initiative  at the Durban
     University of  Technology in  2019. The Retail Leadership  Chairs
     support  the W&RSETA in cutting-edge and innovative  research
     and have been instrumental in supporting MBA and PhD studies
     bursary beneficiaries, as well as pioneering the implementation of
     the W&RSETA’s first occupational qualification.

                                                              W&RSETA CEO, Tom Mkhwanazi reflected on key highlights since
                                                              the establishment of the WRLC initiative.  Among these is  the
                                                              platform created for collaboration between institutions of higher
                                                              learning.  Additionally, the Retail Leadership enabled employers
                                                              and institutions of learning  to engage in  finding solutions to the
                                                              widening skills matches and shortages in fulfiling  a priority of the
                                                              National Skills Development Plan to understand skills demand as
                                                              a key component of skills planning.
