skills development
he July instalment of the CEO’s stakeholder engagement
Tprogramme focused on Gauteng and Limpopo.
Starting off with trade unions, Tom Mkhwanazi met with senior
leadership from two of the W&RSETA’s constituent labour
organisations, the Federal Council of Retail and Allied Workers
(FEDCRAW) and South African Commercial Catering and Allied
Workers Union (SACCAWU). The focus of the discussions were on
the role of trade unions in the implementation of skills development
in the workplace in line with the W&RSETA’s strategic priorities
on transformation, priority skills plan, hard-to-fill vacancies and
stakeholder engagement.
Another key discussion was the worker-initiated programmes
that the W&RSETA supports as required by the National Skills
Development Plan. Trade unions appreciated the support from the
SETA through training programmes which have been provided for
over ten years. FEDCRAW and SACCAWU committed to partner
with the W&RSETA to increase awareness of the SETA’s skills
development programmes among the workers.
