Annual General Meeting 2020

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and adhering to the Government’s ruling on the safety
guidelines, the 100th Annual General Meeting of the Association was conducted as a virtual
meeting on 30 June 2020.

Mr. Yasendra Amerasinghe representing CarMart (Pvt) Ltd was elected as the Chairman of
the Association, while M/s Niranga Pieris representing Prestige Automobiles (Pvt) Ltd and
Charaka Perera representing Stafford Motor Co Ltd were elected as the Senior Vice
Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively for the year 2020/21.

Meetings
During the year under review, the Association met with key Government officials such as
Mr. Basil Rajapakse, Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Secretary to HE the President Hon Dilum
Amunugama, State Minister of Transport and Motor Car Industry seeking intervention of

easing the import restriction on motor vehicles. The role played by the Association
towards the country’s economic growth such as generation of employment, investments,
taxes paid by the members had been highlighted.

At the meeting with Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, he had requested the Association to provide the
remittances paid out by the members in respect of two, three and four wheelers gainst the
respective HS Codes towards looking at providing on a quota basis which will be split on
a jointly agreed basis. A notice on this request had been sent by the Secretariat to all the
members.
