SMALL & SOLO exPO

The CMBA’s Small & Solo Section held their annual Expo on September 28,
with a full day of networking and CLE. Participants learned new practice
pointers, tips to manage their business, and ways to utilize technology.
We appreciate the support of Better Numbers for Lawyers, who, once again,
generously sponsored the Expo lunch.
Special thanks to our speakers for sharing their wisdom, and Small & Solo
Section Co-Chairs, Jill Shankar and Dawn McFadden, for their efforts.

BOnO WeeK 2018 A SUCCeSS!

In the last week of october we celebrated the myriad ways volunteers give back to the pro bono
programs of the CMBA and Legal Aid. Starting with the Lawyer to Lawyer Give Back for Justice
networking event on oct. 22 and concluding with the always-popular Halloween Run for Justice
on oct. 27, volunteers and supporters demonstrated why our legal community is second to
none in its commitment to giving back.

one highlight of the week was ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen o’Connor’s remarks
honoring extraordinary mentors in the Court’s Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program
(see page 31 for featured volunteers and video link). We also welcomed volunteers
and representatives from nearly a dozen nonprofits at a free, joint presentation
by Reach out for Nonprofits and the Volunteer
Lawyers for the Arts oct. 25, sharing information
about IP issues and helping four groups after
the seminar via brief advice sessions. on oct.
26, we held Pro Se Divorce Clinics for
13 participants seeking a simple divorce,
with the help of our partners at the
Cleveland Law Library and volunteer
family law attorneys.
