cULtUraL Legacy series
“history is who we are and why we are the way we are.” – david McCollough
The growth of Cleveland was made possible in large part by the migration of peoples of a variety of origins
to provide the labor or entrepreneurial skills demanded by the changing economy.
The CMBA put a spotlight on the accomplishments of those who came before us with our Cultural
Legacy Series. In March, we celebrated Irish heritage Month with an exploration of the history and
future of Irishtown Bend. on April 2, we explored the careers and legacy of Judges Anthony Celebrezze
and frank Battisti. We continued the series on April 25, with a discussion on the impact of George
Voinovich and frank Lausche.
Appointed by CMBA President Marlon Primes to honor our local history, we appreciate the efforts and
talents of our session co-chairs and speakers.

On Thursday, March 28, 2019, the CMBA’s Women-in-Law Section held the screening of the film
“RBG.” RBG is a remarkable documentary exploring Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s
extraordinary life and career. our audience was treated to a surprise Skype appearance by James
Ginsburg, who shared memories of growing up and advice for new attorneys from Justice Ginsburg.
Cleveland’s own pioneering attorney, ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody Stewart, joined us for
the evening. Justice Stewart is the first African-American woman elected to Ohio’s highest court.
Joseph J. Morford, Managing Partner of Tucker Ellis, LLP, and Ashley L. Jones, CMBA Board of director
and Criminal defense Attorney, joined Justice Stewart on a panel discussion moderated by Awatef Assad,
Cuyahoga County department of Law and CMBA director.
