I selected four area in kinmen, they were idled for a long time, to help 40 young farmers to
establish a new farms for them, based on the different situations, used for livestocks, fruits,
crops, fisheries or both of them. Such as the tidal land nearby the "TZU-HU". We used the

I transfered to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for two years (1978-'79), as a leader of the
ROC Agriculture Sub-mission in Unaizah Gassim. Our main works were establishing a new
demonstration farms and introduced lots of new Varieties from Taiwan or other Countries

It was a special experience for us, the temperature in the desert area, were more than 40Ċ
in the summer times. So that the best time to work was in early morning. Once upon a time,
we drove a wagon to the desert area, and sunk into the deep sands, we did a lot of measures
to pull it up but useless, one of the Bedouins came to help us. He asked us all aboard, and
released the air from all tires, then the car was easily to pull up. Flated tire was another
problem in the desert area. Our headquarter was in Hofuf. It was far from us, but we need to
hand our report once or twice a month, and brought lots of fresh water & fertilizers for our
farms. When we came back to Unaizeh one of our cars got a flat once and again, fortunately
we had two cars together, then we drove the other car to buy new tires, otherwise, under the
high temperature in the desert area, It was dangerous for us. When you travel to the desert
area don't go by yourself!
Eileen & two of our daughters came to Saudi Arabia for one month before I stopped working
in Saudi Arabia.
