About “The Beauty and Mastery of Lacquer Art”
Artists: Wang, Hsien-Chih and Wang, Chun-Wei
“The Beauty and Mastery of Lacquer Art” is a joint exhibition by father-and-son artists
Wang,Hsien-Chih and Wang,Chun-Wei. This exhibition features a combination of lacquer
paintings and three-dimensional lacquer artwork, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of two
generations, blending tradition with innovation. Master Wang,Hsien-Chih, recognized as a leading
preserver of traditional lacquer art in Taiwan, is renowned for his expertise in the maki-e technique.
In 2011, he was officially registered by the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, as a
Preserver of the Lacquer Art—Maki-e Technique. His works are deeply rooted in cultural heritage
and possess exceptional artistic value. Wang,Chun-Wei, drawing on the skills passed down from
his father, is committed to innovation by merging traditional lacquer craftsmanship with modern
aesthetics. His works, which include contemporary lacquer paintings and three-dimensional
artworks, infuse traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive modern sensibility.
“The Beauty and Mastery of Lacquer Art” embodies the artistic heritage shared between
father and son while showcasing the boundless possibilities and diverse evolution of lacquer
craftsmanship. The exhibition invites viewers to explore the delicate world of lacquer painting
and to appreciate the creativity and craftsmanship expressed through three-dimensional lacquer
art. It features both classic works of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary lacquer art that
