2. According to the type of glycosidic linkage
into -glycosides and -glycosides: according to whether the glycone or the
sugar is an - or a -sugar.
Hemi-acetal: Sugar
- 3 Based on the nature of the simple sugar (glycone) component of the glycoside :
Glucosides (the glycone is glucose)
Galactosides: (……. is galactose) …etc.
Rhamnoside: is ………Rhamnose
Glucorhamnoside: is ……. Glucose and rhamnose
- 4 Classification according to the number of monosaccharide units
- Monosides (one monosaccharide unit).
- Biosides (two monosaccharide units).
- Triosides (three monosaccharide units).
- Tetrosides, Pentosides, ... etc.
5- Classification according to the correlation to the parent natural glycoside: in this
system the natural parent glycoside is referred to as the primary glycoside.
➢ The glycoside that is obtained through the elimination of one monosaccharide unit
from this parent glycoside is called the secondary glycoside; and
➢ that which is given after the elimination of two monosaccharide units is called the
tertiary glycoside ... and so on.
