           There are differences in the composition between the fresh plant and the dried drugs. In fresh vegetable,

           anthracene-type compounds occur chiefly as glycosides of monomeric anthrones. During drying, two
           transformation  process  occur:  (1)  oxidation,  which  leads  to  anthraquinone  glycosides,  and  (2)

           dimeization  ,  which  yields  glycosides  of  dianthrone.  Dimerization  is  an  enzymatic  reaction  only
           observed if drying is done at moderate temp. (40 C).
