By cooling at -20 ºC
As soluble salt (+KOH) → acidify & extract with ether
• Properties:
Crystalline on cooling, colourless with camphor-like odour Diosphenol
Has phenol-like character “enolic”, so it form soluble enolate salt with dil KOH
• Identification:
Reduces Fehling’s & ammonical AgNO3 solution gives intense green colour with FeCl3
by formation of derivatives e.g. phenylurethane (with alcohol) or oxime (with ketone) with
definite m.p.
• Uses: Urinary tract antiseptic.
